Burning Wild Review: Firebird Wilds, Star Scatters and a Double-Up Gamble

Burning Wild is a classic fruit slot from Greentube, Novomatic’s online studio: 5×3, five fixed lines, a flaming Firebird Wild on the middle reels, two kinds of star Scatter and a card-colour gamble after every win. There are no free spins and no jackpot. RTP is 95.18% and volatility is low to low-medium. Few figures are published for this game, and databases disagree on several of them — this review marks which ones are confirmed.

The Firebird Wild

The Wild is a flaming Firebird that lands only on reels 2, 3 and 4 and expands to cover its whole reel. It substitutes for the fruit and the sevens, not for the stars. With only five lines, an expanded Wild in the middle is what turns most spins into wins — the same idea as the expanding Wild in Super Fruits Wild, but without a gamble on four reel sets attached.

Two star Scatters

Scatter Where it lands 3 4 5
Gold star Any reel 3× 20× 100×
Violet star Reels 1, 3 and 5 only 20× — —

Both pay in multiples of the total bet, wherever they land, and start nothing else: they are cash prizes, not bonus triggers. The violet star can only ever appear three times, so 20× is its only prize.

Symbols

The paying symbols are the classic set — orange, plum, cherry, lemon, bell, watermelon, grapes and the red seven. The seven is the top symbol and the only one that pays for two on a line; the others need three from the leftmost reel. Published payout values for the individual symbols contradict each other, so we do not reproduce them; the paytable in the game shows the values for your stake — here is how to read it.

The double-up gamble

After a win you can collect or gamble it on the colour of a face-down card:

  • a correct guess doubles the win;
  • a wrong guess loses it;
  • you can repeat up to five times in a row, or until the win reaches 500× the bet (one database).

If the colour is a true 50/50, the gamble is fair on average and only changes how far a session swings. Five correct guesses in a row turn a win into 32 times its size — and happen about once in 32 attempts. How this compares with Inspired’s Hot Spins and other ways of putting a win at risk is in our gamble features guide.

Whether the gamble button is offered depends on the casino and the market. Where it is, decide in advance which wins you will always collect — deciding after each win is how a session gets away from you.

Who should play it, and who should skip it

Good fit if you:

  • want a calm, low-volatility fruit machine with very simple rules;
  • like the classic double-up gamble and decide yourself how far to take it;
  • enjoy Scatter prizes that pay straight away.

Probably not for you if you:

  • want free spins or any bonus round;
  • prefer games with a full set of published figures;
  • care most about RTP — Better Wilds returns 1.24 percentage points more.
