Better Wilds is a 5×4 slot with 25 fixed lines from Playtech’s Origins studio, released in June 2020. It looks like a classic fruit and bar machine, but its green diamond Special Wilds start a respin round in which they walk one reel to the left and grow on every spin. There are no free spins, no multipliers and no bonus buy. RTP is 96.42%, volatility is medium and the top payout is 500×.

Two kinds of Wild
- The regular Wild substitutes for every symbol except the Special Wild and is also the top-paying symbol: five on a line pay 500× the line bet.
- The Special Wild is a green diamond that lands only on reels 3, 4 and 5. It is the “better” Wild of the title, because it starts the respins.
Wild Respins: how the diamonds move
- A Special Wild on reels 3–5 triggers a respin.
- On each respin, every Special Wild moves one reel to the left.
- From the second respin on, each Special Wild also expands one row up or down, so it covers more positions as it travels.
- Respins continue as long as a Special Wild is still on the screen; a new Special Wild landing during the respins keeps the sequence going.
A diamond that lands on reel 5 can therefore produce several respins on its way across the grid, growing as it goes — the main source of the game’s bigger wins. It is a different idea from the sticky and expanding Wilds in other games, compared in our guide to Wild symbols.
Paytable
Payouts as multiples of the line bet, for 3, 4 and 5 symbols on a line:
| Symbol | 3 | 4 | 5 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wild | 25 | 250 | 500 |
| Red 7 | 25 | 200 | 500 |
| Bell | 15 | 100 | 250 |
| Triple bar | 10 | 75 | 200 |
| Double bar | 10 | 50 | 150 |
| Single bar | 10 | 40 | 125 |
| Cherries | 5 | 25 | 100 |
| A, K | 5 | 20 | 75 |
| Q, J | 5 | 15 | 50 |
Two Bells, two Red 7s or two Wilds already pay 5× the line bet.
With 25 lines, the line bet is 1/25 of your total bet, so five Red 7s on one line pay 20× the total bet. The 500× top win needs the best symbols on many lines at once. More on line-bet and total-bet values in our guide to reading a paytable.
Better Wilds against other classic-style slots we review
The full comparison of fruit slots we review is in fruit slots with Wild features.
| Better Wilds | Miss Cherry Fruits | Super Fruits Wild | |
|---|---|---|---|
| RTP | 96.42% | 96.13% | 94.98% |
| Lines | 25 on 5×4 | 20, both ways | 10 |
| Wild feature | Walking, growing Special Wilds with respins | Expanding Wild with up to 3 respins | Expanding Wild + Hot Spins gamble |
| Max win | 500× | x1000 | Not published |
Of the three, Better Wilds has the highest RTP but the lowest ceiling. Miss Cherry Fruits doubles the top win with a similar respin idea; Super Fruits Wild trades RTP for its gamble feature.
Pros and cons
Who should play it, and who should skip it
Good fit if you:
- want a classic-looking slot with one feature that is easy to follow;
- prefer medium volatility and a 96.42% RTP over huge ceilings;
- like watching a respin sequence build rather than buying a bonus.
Probably not for you if you:
- want free spins, multipliers or a bonus buy — there are none;
- chase big wins: 500× is the limit;
- prefer games with fixed, published bet limits — they vary by casino.
