Merge Up 2 is BGaming’s sequel to its 2023 cluster slot, released on 28 October 2025. The core idea is unchanged — winning clusters upgrade into the next gem — but the sticky cell multipliers now work in every spin, not only in free spins, a bomb symbol clears space on the grid, and the ceiling doubles to 10,000× the bet. The default RTP is 98%, volatility is very high.

| RTP | 98%; BGaming also lists a 97% version |
| Volatility | Very high |

How Merge Up 2 pays
Merging gems
A cluster of 4 or more matching gems pays, then part of it disappears and the rest move up one level. There are nine symbol levels in the pastel gem set; a winning cluster of level-8 gems creates a Bomb (level 9), and the Scatter sits above it as level 10.

Cell multipliers in every spin
Every cell that is part of a win is marked with a x2 multiplier, and each further win on it doubles the value — x4, x8, up to x128. The multipliers of the cells in one cluster are added together.
- Base game: the marks last until the end of the spin and its cascades.
- Free spins: the marks stay until the round ends.
The Bomb
When it goes off, the Bomb clears the 8 symbols around it, raises those cells’ multipliers by one step and then turns into a Scatter — so a Bomb in the base game also brings you closer to free spins.

Free spins
| Scatters | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6+ |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free spins | 12 | 15 | 20 | 30 |
Three or more Scatters during the round add 5 more spins. BGaming lowered the trigger from four Scatters in the original to three after studying streamer data with the analytics firm Strmlytics.
Bonus buys and Chance x2

| Option | Price | Cost at a €1 bet |
|---|---|---|
| Free spins | 100× | €100 |
| Free spins with x2 on every cell | 250× | €250 |
| Free spins with 3–9 starting Bombs | 500× | €500 |
Chance x2 raises the bet by 20% (0.40 on a 2.00 bet) to improve the odds of the bonus; it is switched off while a buy is active. Prices of all three buys are compared with other games in our bonus buy guide.
Check the RTP in the game’s rules before buying (how to check the RTP version): the 97% version returns one percentage point less than the default. Bonus buys may not be offered in every market.
What changed from the first Merge Up
| Merge Up (2023) | Merge Up 2 (2025) | |
|---|---|---|
| RTP | 97.25% | 98% (97% version exists) |
| Max win | 5,000× | 10,000× |
| Free spins trigger | 4 / 5 / 6 Scatters → 15 / 18 / 20 | 3 / 4 / 5 / 6+ → 12 / 15 / 20 / 30 |
| Free spins frequency | 1 in 276 | 1 in 409 |
| Cell multipliers | Free spins only | Every spin |
| Bet range | €0.20–€50 | €0.25–€25 |
Despite the easier trigger, free spins arrive less often on average (1 in 409 against 1 in 276); the base game carries more of the action instead. The original is covered in our Merge Up review. BGaming later reused the same engine for Sugar Merge Up (March 2026), a candy-themed version with a 97% RTP.

Pros and cons
Who should play it, and who should skip it
Good fit if you:
- want a 98% default RTP, the highest of the slots we review;
- like base-game spins that can still build multipliers;
- want a choice of bonus buys at three price points.
Probably not for you if you:
- want frequent free spins — one in 409 spins on average;
- play with higher stakes than €25 per spin;
- prefer slots where a spin is over in a second — merges and cascades take time.
